Photographed during 2009, this suite remains but a small selection of photographs whereby I specifically sought tree shadows upon facades of buildings.
Mostly shot within ‘Sydneys’ environs, my aim was to reclaim Aboriginal spirituality and capture its omnipresence via images of shadows / spirits. The notion that one only witnesses a ‘spirit’ at a certain time of day or night is represented here through the necessitation of time v’s light.
Often, I’d catch a glimpse of a stunning shadow on a wall whilst sitting in traffic and note the time of the morning, then return the next morning to capture the shot. The organic beauty of the shadowy figures acts as a literal camouflage of the often ugly architectural facade.
