This piece was by witnessing a generic billboard along the Sturt Highway, Southern NSW. The attempt at reverse psychology to lure potential businesses to advertise their product becomes nothing more than a ‘slap in the face’ environmental graffiti. Furthermore, a token trophy of colonialism and a modern society bereft of culture and respect for the original custodians of the landscape.
Whilst the existing billboard carries the same main text, the context becomes more fitting when placed upon the Union Jack. At the base of the board typically features the words – ‘BUY THIS SPACE’, so more aptly suited I’ve amended to ‘buy this place’. Finally, the 1300 number is the number of the Liberal National Party head office number.
